  • “Hate-Toons”: gays, women & chimps targeted by offensive NY Post cartoonist

Q: Why does anyone read this drivel?

A: Because tasteless goes great with morning coffee!

An uproar is brewing about an editorial cartoon in today’s New York Post  that appears to tie President Obama to a rampaging chimpanzee killed by police.

The cartoon, by Sean Delonas, shows a chimp splayed on the ground in a pool of blood. Two officers stand over the body, one holding a smoking gun, and the second saying, “they’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill”~ The Boston Globe

    NY POST CARTOON

Sean Delonas for Wednesday February 18, 2009

The New York Post has once again published an offensive and inappropriate political “cartoon”. The “artist”, Sean Delonas, is known to offer vicious and lewd comics which, more often than not, aimed at groups he is obviously prejudiced against. His offensive and dehumanizing descriptions, which frequently mock homosexuals, have long been published by the Post~ Page Six routinely refers to them as ‘swishy’, and editorial cartoonist Sean Delonas includes a picture of a sheep in just about every cartoon about a gay subject — a not-so-veiled allusion to the canard linking homosexuality and bestiality. ([GLAAD] has complained about Delonas's spite, to little effect.”)~Queerty The New York Post continues to allow Sean Delonas to perpetuate virulently anti-gay stereotypes with his caricatures~  the main thrust of his political doodles seems to be the belittlement of the LGBT lifestyle. I wonder why the famously homophobic  "funny-man" is so tormented and threatened by alternative lifestyles?  It must be difficult for him to spend such a large portion of time engrossed in issues that apparently disgust him? Do they really?  Could the intolerant illustrator is actually be a closeted cartoonist?

Cartoonist is Sean Delonas, Has a History

    Feb. 18, 2009

According to NY Post web site the cartoonist is Sean Delonas. Here is google cache from June 2008.
Apparently he drew attention for running similar cartoons twice back in 2008~

In what might be best described as Bad Cartoonist fodder, Sean Delonas, editorial cartoonists for the New York Post, is catching flack for drawing two near-identical cartoons that appear to be mirror images of each other.

New York Post Publishes Second Anti-Gay Cartoon in Three Weeks

The New York Post does it again in its October 27 edition. Two days after the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that discrimination against same-sex couples violates that state's equal protection requirement, the New York Post published a cartoon by Sean Delonas depicting a man carrying a sheep wearing a bridal veil to a "New Jersey Marriage Licenses" window.

    Ten Cartoons from Sean Delonas

The outcry over New York Post cartoonist Sean Delonas' dead monkey cartoon today is growing louder. But he has such a rich history! We assembled ten of his all-time classics of hate:Al Sharpton and Gov. David Paterson are criticizing Delonas' cartoon today, but Post editor Col Allan is backing up his favorite artiste, issuing this statement:The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist. You can enjoy these blasts from the past below~

That pregnant transgender man—what are docs supposed to do with this freak? (This one was so clever he drew it twice)

A gay dude who married a woman—what next?

Muslim terrorists love Democrats. What else is new, huh?

    Gays: Sheep fuckers.

Gays: Stereotypical prancing beacons of corruption.

Gays: They're destroying marriage, but at least they're not as bad as Liza Minnelli, who is a woman but nevertheless married David Gest, who is a prancing gay.

    Women: Whores.

Gay pride? More like cross dressing freakazoids! Amirite?

Rosie O'Donnell is a fat butch lesbian. Haha.

Heather Mills has only one leg. Haha.

And Al Sharpton has a big ass. Which likes to be kissed.

    It's Mr. Hateful himself! D

I wonder if he's just one of those rare cynical types. Probably miserable, or does it for the uproar he causes. I personally don't take offense, though, I seriously don't agree with his opinions. I'm not disturbed by any of the comics, it's the same crap people make jokes about daily. Of course, when a gay joke is made in passing we deem it acceptable, but I guess it's different when it's actually published...

Though, I do have to admit, the Obama comic bothered me a little bit. Not to a high extent, but I don't know why any editor would have felt it was publishable to begin with. Crude humor at it's finest.

I'm still bothered through all of these there's no one that works there that stops and goes... "hmmm maybe this goes too far."  Of course they figure controversy sells, but maybe if enough people stop buying and reading the paper because of this guy they'll finally fire him.

I don't think it's THAT big a deal, but I do think the comic went a bit far and shouldn't have been published. What a jerk.
